Newark Woman Scores $1 Million from Lottery Scratcher
Carolyn Rodriguez said she plans to adopt as many cats as possible with her winnings.

Carolyn Rodriguez was waiting for a friend one day when she decided to pop into a Fremont liquor store and buy a $10 scratcher.
That move just changed her life.
The Newark woman scored $1 million dollars in the California Lottery’s $1,000,000 Fortune Scratchers game, which she purchased at Kwik & Convenient Food Liquor & Wine, located at 3157 Walnut Ave. in Fremont.

The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1.2 million, according to the California Lottery.
“I’m still overwhelmed,” Rodriguez said in a statement Monday.

A retired catering employee, Rodriguez doesn’t have any extravagant plans for her winnings.
“I love cats and plan to adopt as many as possible,” she said.
