Nomination Period for Alameda County Candidates Starts Today

Three Newark Unified Board of Education seats are up for grabs in the November general election. The filing period goes from Monday to Friday Aug. 10.

If you want to run for a public office seat, now’s your chance to file with the Alameda County Registrar of Voters.

The nomination period begins today and ends Aug. 10 for the Nov. 6 general election.

In Newark, open positions include the three Newark Unified School District Board of Education seats, according to the Registrar of Voters.

The terms for Newark Board of Education President Ray Rodriguez, Board Vice President Jan Crocker and member Janice Schaefer end this year.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors for District 2, which serves Newark, also has one short-term seat to fill.

Former Union City councilman Richard Valle was after the . That appointment will expire in December, but Valle said he will run for the open seat.

Ohlone Community College District also has four seats up on its board. Those seats are those of Board Chair Greg Bonaccorcsi and members Ann Crosbie, Teresa Cox and Vivien Larsen. Larsen serves the district's Area 1, which includes Newark.

The Alameda County Water District, which also serves Newark, has three district directors seats open. And Washington Township Healthcare District has two district directors available.
