Ohlone Community College to recognize 50 students at its annual Student Awards Ceremony

Students will be honored for their academic achievements at Ohlone Community College during the college's annual Student Awards Ceremony on Tuesday.
Approximately 50 students will be honored during the public ceremony.
The students will be recognized for their achievements in various subjects, including art, biotechnology, environmental studies, nursing, political science, speech and theater.
The students who will be honored are also involved in various activities outside of the classroom, such as student clubs and tutoring, according to a press release.
Tuesday's event is a tradition carried out by Ohlone faculty members. A faculty-ran committee, established by the college's Faculty Senate, preserved the tradition despite budget cuts.
"To acknowledge and award such students not only encourages them to greater achievement, but helps to remind us, the faculty, of why we do what we do," said Barbara Duggal, librarian and committee chair, in a press release.
The event is free and will begin at 5 p.m. at the Ohlone College Smith Center at the main campus. The awards ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in the center's Jackson Theatre.
Ohlone's main campus is located at 43600 Mission Blvd., Fremont.
