Authorities said the man they are looking for is not a person of interest or suspect.

FREMONT — Police are asking the public for help in finding a potential witness to a fatal shooting two weeks ago in the Centerville neighborhood.

About 11 p.m. on April 6, was in the 4200 block of Central Avenue, said Det. Bill Veteran. The 20-year-old Fremont man was shot in the head.

Moments later, a white man in his 40s, driving a 2001 or 2002 Silver Mustang with a fin in the back, stopped the car in the driveway. He asked people nearby about what happened to the victim. He then drove away — about 20 seconds after the suspects left the scene, Veteran said.

Police said the man is not a suspect or person of interest. "He's merely a witness we're trying to get a hold of to see if he saw anything," Veteran said.

Anyone with information about the homicide or the potential witness can call police at 510-790-6963.
