Police: Minor Brandishes Gun, Reckless Gunshots

In this week's crime log, police investigate reports of gunshots fired and dozens of stolen property found.

The following is a summary of calls made to and arrests made by the Newark Police Department between Aug. 15 and Aug. 21.

Top News

A minor was arrested on suspicion of several violations after police officers received a call about a male pointing a gun at two people walking on Cherry Street on Saturday night . The youth entered the front passenger seat of a gray BMW and fled, according to the police report. Police locate the vehicle and arrested the minor on suspicion of  carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in public or in a vehicle, being a minor carrying a firearm and live ammunition, drawing a firearm in a threatening manner. No injuries were reported. The youth was brought to Juvenile Hall.

Reports of Gunshots

Several reports of reckless discharge of a weapon and gunshots being heard were called into the Newark Police Department at about 8:22 p.m. Saturday on the 6800 block of Dairy Avenue. Newark police were unable to locate any suspects at the time.

Police were called to Civic Terrace Avenue just before 9 a.m. on Sunday when a resident found his neighbor’s vehicle parked with windows shot out.

Violence

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and corporal injury at McDonald's on Saturday. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Burglary, Robbery and Theft

A 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of violating parole after police searched a home on Saint Paul Drive and found property taken from dozens of residential burglaries that occurred in Belmont. to read more about the police investigation.

A minor was arrested and taken to juvenile hall for armed robbery at Macy's on Thursday.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and cited at Macy's on Friday on suspicion of petty theft on Friday.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of petty theft at Target on Thursday.

Drugs and Alcohol

A 19-year-old was cited on suspicion of having a blood alcohol content level higher than 0.01 percent at Central Avenue on Saturday.

A 17-year-old was cited on suspicion of having a blood alcohol content level higher than 0.01 percent at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery on Saturday.

A 36-year-old woman was arrested and cited on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol at Thornton Avenue.
