Police: No Injuries From Fireworks in Newark
Newark's July 4 celebration "relatively quiet" compared to previous years, police said.
Despite having received steady calls during the July 4 holiday, no injuries were reported to Newark police during Independence Day celebrations.
A total of 119 calls were received, but, overall, Newark residents celebrated safely, said Sgt. Aaron Slater of the Newark Police Department.
“We always get a ton of calls,” said Slater, who mentioned many people call in just to report fireworks going off in their neighborhoods. He added this year was “relatively quiet” compared to years past.

It is unknown whether anyone was found possessing illegal fireworks this year, but Slater said normally offenders are given citations and have any illegal fireworks taken away from them.
Newark is one of only three towns in Alameda County in which Safe and Sane fireworks were sold before the Independence Day holiday.

In nearby Union City, a in a fireworks-related accident, according Lt. Ben Horner with the Union City Police Department. A total of 252 calls were made to Union City police on July 4.
