Update: Home Burglary Leads to Car Chase, School Lockdown

One man has been arrested.

A man was arrested after a reported home burglary led to a brief car chase  and a school lockdown, police said.

The burglary was reported shortly before noon Monday on the 6200 block of Madeline Drive after a witness reported seeing several men trying to "force entry" into a home on that street then left the area in a vehicle, according to a Newark police statement.

Police said an officer attempted to stop the suspects' vehicle but the driver failed to stop and instead "lost control of the vehicle and struck another motorist" near Mayhews Landing Road and Spruce Street. Police said no injuries were reported, but the suspects fled from the vehicle.

The suspects, all described as males, ran west to a nearby flood control channel between Mayhews Landing Road and Peachtree Drive but after three hours, only on suspect was found, authorities said.

The man arrested was identified as East Palo Alto resident Carlos Morales-Villela, 19. He was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, evading police, resisting arrest, prowling and hit and run.
