Quake Shakes Bay Area Late Tuesday Night

The tremor was measured at 3.6-magnitude.

A magnitude-3.6 earthquake jolted the East Bay late Tuesday night, followed by a 2.3 magnitude quake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was reported just after 11:35 p.m. Tuesday. Its epicenter was reported about 3 miles northeast of San Leandro with a depth of approximately 5.7 miles. About five minutes later, the 2.3 magnitude quake struck near the same spot.

Patch readers as south as Newark and as far east as Dublin reported feeling significant shaking.

The late-night earthquake comes the same day that a 5.8-magnitude tremor hit the East Coast, about 38 miles outside of Richmond, VA, and an estimated 100 miles southwest of the nation’s capital.
