About 20 people are displaced after a two-alarm apartment fire on the 37000 block of Cherry Street destroyed one unit and took out power to surrounding apartments late Monday night, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.
No injuries were reported, fire officials said.

The fire was first reported around 10:05 p.m. and the Alameda County Fire Department tweeted to Newark Patch that the fire was knocked down and units were being released around 10:55 p.m.
The fire began after a cooking pot was left unattended on the stove and caught fire, Alameda County Fire Department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said. One unit was destroyed and another sustained significant damange, Knowles added.

The second-alarm response included seven fire engines, two fire trucks and one heavy rescue vehicle.
Six adults were displaced by the fire and the American Red Cross offered assistance to a total of 20 people, including people displaced because of the lack of electricity in the apartment building, Knowles said.
