School Board Reverses Cuts to Programs, Services
The trustees vote to not go forward with program cuts that were approved in December 2010.

Newark Unified School District officials announced Wednesday the district's Board of Education rescinded cuts that were scheduled for July 1.
The positions and programs include the following:
- Assistant Principal
- College and Career Center
- Counselor
- Custodian
- Library Services K-12
- Reinstatement of an elective program at NJHS
Superintendent Dave Marken wrote in a memo to district staff forwarded to Newark Patch that he wanted to thank the trustees for "their courageous vote."

"I cannot stress enough the importance of this vote. School districts still face extremely difficult financial issues, and are completely dependent on the placement and passage of a referendum on the November ballot," Marken wrote. "Given these uncertainties, the vote by the Board of Trustees was spectacular, bold and courageous."
