School Board to Discuss Vice Principal, District Administrator Positions

A new assistant principal for and a district official may be appointed during tonight’s regular school board meeting.

Both the assistant principal position and the position of coordinator of continuous improvement and state/federal/special projects are up for discussion during the closed session of tonight’s Newark Unified Board of Education meeting.

The board’s public meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the district office, 5715 Musick Ave.

The high school’s assistant principal position became vacant after the resignation of Jonathan Ferrer, who was in Pacifica.

At its Aug. 9 board meeting, the Board of Education appointed Thomas Orput as principal of the . Orput joins Newark Unified from Alameda Unified School District, where he was most recently principal of Alameda Adult School.

“I am grateful to be here. This is my passion — to be in a small, urban, diverse school district,” Orput said during the Aug. 9 meeting.
