Six Battle For Two Seats On Newark's City Council

The office of Mayor is also up for grabs with current city Council Member Michael Hannon showing a commanding lead.

NEWARK, CA — Two city council seats and the mayor's office were up for grabs in the city of Newark's municipal election held Nov. 8, 2022, and candidates on the ballot are still waiting for the final vote tallies to see if they secure a spot on that city’s dais.

According to the most recent numbers released by AC Vote, Alameda County's vote counting and reporting agency, in the race for mayor, current council member Michael Hannon leads over Jason Miguel, 3,625 votes (65.35 percent) to 1,922 votes (34.65 percent), respectively.

The winner of that race will replace current Mayor Alan Nagy who announced earlier this year he would not run for reelection.
