Solid Rock Church to Give Away 200 Backpacks Stuffed With School Supplies This Saturday

Getting ready for the new school year can be financially stressful for families. Solid Rock Church of God in Christ is here to help. 

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, the local church will host its 7th Annual Health Services and Back 2 School Fair at 5970 Thornton Ave. in Newark.

The church hopes to give away 200 backpacks filled with school supplies.

The event will also include free health screenings, health information and haircuts for area students.

The Oakland Raiderettes will also make an appearance from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The church is currently seeking donations for the event.

“Maybe showing kindness to a child will show them a compassion that they've never felt. Maybe it will show them the kindness of strangers. And maybe, just maybe, it will show them love and how to treat others,” program coordinator Lenietta Britton of Solid Rock Church wrote on the event page.
