School District Child Nutrition Services recognizes the need for the program in Newark.

“Many of our children who rely on school breakfast and lunch during the school year, do not have the opportunities for nutritious meals during the summer.  Kids who get enough to eat and have safe activities to participate in during the summer come back to school happy, healthy, and ready to learn.  Our summer meals program is a building block in service to our children and our community.”

The Summer Food Service Program for Children is a federally funded program operated nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), administered by the California Department of Education and provided by Newark Unified School District.  Eligible sponsors are schools, non-profit organizations, churches, and local governments.
