Two Injured in Solo-Vehicle Crash

Fire officials say one person had to be extracted from the vehicle.

Two people were injured in a solo-vehicle accident Thursday evening, fire officials said today.

One person had to be extracted from the vehicle with the assistance of the Alameda County Fire Department, said Battalion Chief Kris Kerstetter.

It took four crews from Alameda County Fire and 35 minutes to get the passenger out of the vehicle, said Aisha Knowles, public information officer with Alameda County Fire.

The pair was transferred to a nearby hospital, but no information is available on their current status, Kerstetter said. Newark police dispatchers said the accident was called in just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Witnesses said the incident, which occurred on Cedar Boulevard near Edgewater Drive, caused major traffic delays in both directions. Partial lane closures were already in effect on Cedar Boulevard due to PG&E work.
