UPDATE: Logan Alumna, Fremont Resident Among Victims of Oakland Shooting

Newark, Calif. — While officials have yet to release the identities of the seven people killed in a in Oakland Monday, two of them are believed to have ties to the Tri-City area.

Close friends have told Newark Patch that Grace Eunhae Kim, 23, lived in Fremont and Lydia Sim, 21, of Hayward, had attended high school in Union City. Officials from the Alameda County coroner's office said they expect to release the victims' identities by the end of Tuesday.

Kim was also an employee at in Newark. A manager at the restaurant on Mowry Avenue had no comment Monday night.

Sim was a 2009 graduate of James Logan High School in Union City, New Haven Unified School District officials said. On her Facebook profile, she is listed as an employee at in Newark.

According to the Oakland Tribune, Sim lived in Union City for 11 years before moving to Hayward. Relatives told the Tribune that she was "an outgoing and independent girl devoted to her Christian faith, with a passion for taking care of children." (Read the full report here.)

Also slain was 33-year-old , according to the Tibetan Association of Northern California.

The Oakland Tribune reported that Tshering Rinzing Bhutia, 38, of San Francisco and Kathleen Ping, 24 were also killed in the mass shooting.

All told, six of the people killed were women; one was a San Francisco man, shot to death when the suspect stole his car outside of the school, according to news reports. Six were students, and one was a secretary.

After an extensive manhunt,  in connection to the shooting that occurred at Oikos University, a private religious school at 7850 Edgewater Drive in Oakland.

Goh, believed to be an Oakland resident and a Korean national, is suspected in the shooting of 10 adults at the university, police Chief Howard Jordan said at a news conference at police headquarters Monday.  

Condolences for Kim — whose Facebook profile indicates she is 23 and a graduate of in Pleasanton — have spread throughout the web.

“I love you lil Eun Hae. May the wings of ALL the angels drape over you,” wrote a friend on Kim’s Facebook wall.

On Twitter, others wrote:

Just got a call. Rest in peace @KlMEUNHAE. You’re with the angels now.”

Unreal. RIP Grace @KlMEUNHAE. Thoughts and prayers to the fam and friends of all the victims of such senseless killing.

I was always so inspired by your dedication and spunk. I will miss you Grace face! And I love you @KlMEUNHAE

Friends have said that Fremont resident Lydia Sim was also a victim from the fatal shooting. According to other media reports, Sim was 21 years old.

“Lydia Sim #restinpeace #Oikos,” wrote one person on Twitter.

Another Twitter user wrote, “RIP Lydia Sim.... I love you big sister... Say hi to God for me…”

KTVU 2 reported that Sim's father also acknowledged his daughter was a victim of the shooting and that he would miss her.

Police said they first responded to the private Christian vocational university around 10:33 a.m.

Five shooting victims were pronounced dead at the scene while another two victims died at a hospital, according to police.        

Three other victims who were injured in the shooting were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive, Jordan said.                

Police believe Goh used a handgun, which authorities are currently searching for, police said. According to news reports the gun may have been purchased in Castro Valley.

About 35 people were in or near the building when the shooting occurred, and officers evacuated 13 people from the facility, Jordan said.

A vigil for victims of Oikos shooting is scheduled to be held at 6 p.m. today (April 3) at Allen Temple Baptist Church, located at 8709 International Blvd. in Oakland.
