Vice Mayor Ana Apodaca Finalist for Nadia Lockyer's County Seat

Five finalists were selected to move onto the appointment process to fill the vacant District 2 Alameda County Supervisor seat.

Newark Vice Mayor Ana Apodaca is among five finalists being considered to fill the District 2 seat on the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, according to media reports.

The Oakland Tribune reported Tuesday that the councilwoman also received the most votes – with each of the four current representatives of the five-member board voting for her to move forward in the appointment process.

Finalists will be interviewed May 29.

Union City Mayor Green; former Union City councilman and mayoral candidate Richard Valle; Sheryl Grant, who has no political history; and former District 2 Supervisor Gail Steele are the other finalists, according to the Tribune.

Steele is the only applicant who proclaimed she would not seek election for the seat in November.

The seat became vacant when former District 2 Supervisor Nadia Lockyer after a highly covered bout of drug addiction, an extramarital affair and an alleged, unfounded assault in which she claimed her ex-lover attacked her.

The board plans to appoint someone by June 5 and that person will serve in the District 2 seat until the November general election, the Tribune report states.
