14-Year-Old Killed, Hit By Truck Walking In Newport Beach: Police

The driver was arrested on suspicion of homicide and child cruelty, according to police.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A 14-year-old pedestrian was killed in a crash Saturday in Newport Beach, and the driver is charged with homicide, police said.

Officers responded around 6:45 p.m. to the area of Balboa Boulevard and Palm Street, according to police, who said the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Joseph Alcazar, who had been driving a pickup truck involved in the collision, stayed nearby, police said, adding alcohol appeared to be a factor in the incident.

Alcazar, 30, of Fontana, was arrested on suspicion of homicide from a traffic fatality and child cruelty, according to police.
