Several gruesome photos have been shared on Twitter from reporters and runners who said they were at the scene, some appearing to show individuals missing limbs and blood splattered across the sidewalk.

According to the Boston Athletic Association site, some Newport Beach entrants finished well before the blasts:

  • Maria Fong, age 38, 3 hours, 51 minutes, 14 seconds
  • Jill Carter, age 45, 3 hours, 43 minutes, 48 seconds
  • Tonson Tong, age 46, 2 hours, 58 minutes, 41 seconds
  • Barry Wallman, age 61, 3 hours, 55 minutes, 59 seconds
  • Marshall Solomon, age 40, 2 hours, 55 minutes, 3 seconds
  • Juliet Sanita, age 39, 3 hours, 36 minutes, 7 seconds

These marks are “gun times,” not the actual times from start to finish, since many thousands of entrants don’t reach the starting line until minutes after the gun goes off.

Kandace McMenomy, of Corona del Mar, and Sherrie Kaplan, of Newport Coast, also participated in the race as part members of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team to raise money for cancer research. Their final running times were not marked in the official Boston Marathan webstite.

"It is unclear if any of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge runners or supporters were injured by the explosions, we have no such reports so far," Crystal Carroll, of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute told Patch. "We are working diligently at our Copley Square marathon headquarters to confirm the status of as many of our runners as possible."
