Bicyclist Struck on Coast Highway, Accident Closes 2 Lanes

A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle and injured on Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach today and the driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said.

It happened just after 5 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway near Los Trancos Canyon Road, according to Newport Beach police.

The age, gender and condition of the victim, taken to a hospital for treatment, were not immediately available, police said.

The 23-year-old man at the wheel of the vehicle that struck the victim was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said.

Two of three westbound lanes of PCH were expected to remain closed for several hours after the crash.
