Breakers vs. Aviators Tonight at Newport Beach Tennis Club

The Orange County Breakers play last of World Team Tennis matches against San Diego Aviators at Newport Beach Tennis Club tonight.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA—The Orange County Breakers will conclude their series of four World Team Tennis matches in four nights against the San Diego Aviators tonight at Breakers Stadium at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.

The home team has won each of the three previous matches, including on Tuesday night when the Aviators won 23-15 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, building a 10-game lead after three sets.

The Aviators (2-1) won each of the first three sets.

Ryan Harrison opened the match with a 5-2 victory over Dennis Novikov in men's singles. Shelby Rogers defeated Nicole Gibbs, 5-1, in women's singles. Harrison and Raven Klassen teamed for a 5-2 victory over Novikov and Scott Lipsky in men's doubles for a 15-5 lead.

The Breakers (1-2) began to chip away at the lead when Alla Kudryavtseva and Gibbs defeated Darija Jurak and Rogers, 5-3, in women's doubles.

The Breakers also won the final set, mixed doubles, with Lipsky and Kudryavtseva defeating Klassen and Jurak, 5-4.

Under World TeamTennis rules, if the trailing team wins the final set, the match continues in extended play until the leading team wins one game or the match is tied.

Extended play lasted just two minutes with Kudryavtseva having her serve broken.

The Aviators won 20-19 Sunday at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in the season opener for both teams. The Breakers won 22-20 Monday night at Breakers Stadium at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.

World TeamTennis matches consist of one set each of men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles, with the team winning the most games winning the match.
