Burglar Walks in Newport Home, Steals Cash, Credit Cards

Suspect steals from an unlocked home on 28th Street while the resident was in the garage.

A burglar recently stole from a home in Newport Beach while the resident was in the garage, police reported.

The burglary took place at a home in the 100 block of 28th Street on Friday, July 19, between 9 and 9:15 a.m. According to police, an unknown suspect entered the home through an open front door while the victim was in the garage, and stole cash and credit cards from a wallet that was in the kitchen.

- Close and lock all doors, windows and garage door.

- All exterior doors should be equipped with a deadbolt lock, which should always be used have a security strike plate, attached with a minimum of two, three inch screws.

- If you have an alarm, always activate it when you are away.

- Use photo cells or timers to turn both interior and exterior lights on and off.

- If you are going to be out of town, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to check on your home and pick up your mail.
