A fire broke out at a Newport Beach house today, but no one was injured, a police official reported.
The fire was reported about 12:30 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of Apolena Avenue. Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman, said a neighbor called 911 after noticing smoke coming from the home where an elderly woman lives.
"Officers responded and it was determined that the fire was a result of a cooking incident and was contained to a small area," Lowe explained. "The resident was unharmed and returned to her home after the smoke cleared."
No other information was immediately available.
