Coroner IDs Body Found on Newport Rock Jetty

The body of Pedro Ruiz, 82, was found Sunday afternoon on the rocks at the water line at 40th Street and the beach, authorities reported.

An 82-year-old Costa Mesa man was identified late Monday as the man whose body was pulled from the 40th Street rocky jetty in Newport Beach, the Orange County coroner's office reported.

The body of Pedro Ruiz was found about 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the water line at 40th Street and the beach, according to a coroner's report. Responding lifeguards and police officers brought the fully clothed body to shore. Police do not suspect foul play in the man's death.

The Orange County Coroner is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death.
