
The teen who was behind the wheel in the Memorial Day crash in Newport Beach that claimed the lives of five teenagers did not have drugs or alcohol in his system, according to a report in the Daily Pilot.
Abdulrahman M. Alyahyan, 17, of Irvine was not under the influence of drugs, alcohol or over-the-counter medications when he crashed a 2008 Infiniti into a tree on Jamboree Road, a coroner's toxicology report showed.
Passengers Aurora Cabrera, 16, her sister, Robin, 17, and juniors Nozad Al Hamawendi, 17, and Cecilia D. Zamora, 17, were also killed in the crash the single-vehicle crash on the afternoon of May 27 on Jamboree Road near Island Lagoon Drive.
Zamora and Cabrera had taken cough medicine and antihistamines in the hours leading up to the crash, the newspaper reported.
Newport Beach police said Alyahyan was driving at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred.
