COSTA MESA, CA — Costa Mesa City councilmembers will discuss an early-stage proposal for a residential and retail development project for Costa Mesa's Hive Campus, according to city staff.
Councilmembers are scheduled to discuss the 172,176 square-foot property during its meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 1.

The project site, located at 3333 Susan St., is the current location of the Hive in Costa Mesa — a creative office space campus that holds businesses, restaurants and the Chargers' performance facility.
If the city moves forward with the project, the office space and Chargers' field will be replaced by the residential development.

According to the staff report, the proposal is in its premature stage of development. On Tuesday, councilmembers will discuss whether or not the applicant should prepare a full project proposal for the council.
The proposed residential site is planned to include three five-story buildings, each housing roughly 350 units. According to the city, each unit would come with a private 50-foot balcony.
The Costa Mesa City Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 in City Council Chambers, 77 Fair Drive.
