Driver, Passengers Hurt when Bus Crashes into Planter at Fashion Island

No other vehicles were involved and all of the people taken to hospitals were complaining of pain but did not seem to have serious injuries.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA - A bus driver and five passengers were taken to hospitals tonight after an Orange County Transportation Authority bus entered the vacant parking lot of a Fashion Island building, drove up a concrete embankment and struck a large planter, authorities said.

The crash happened at 700 Newport Center Drive at around 7 p.m., said Newport Beach Police Sgt. Eric Little.

No other vehicles were involved and all of the people taken to hospitals were complaining of pain but did not seem to have serious injuries, Little said. Three of the eight passengers on the bus were unhurt.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, he said.
