Newport Beach Monday Essentials: Donate School Supplies, Free Fair Admission and More

Here are five things residents of Newport Beach and Corona del Mar need to know today.

1. Staples in Newport Beach is collecting school supplies for needy kids along with the Boys and Girls Club of America. The Staples for Students National School Supply Drive will benefit kids in the Harbor Area to make sure they get school supplies in time for the new school year. Donations can be made at the Staples located at 4343 MacArthur Blvd. in Newport Beach.

2. The Newport Beach Public Library is working on a local history project focused on teens, called "Kids These Days, Growing up in Newport Beach." Staff is looking for photos, from every era, depicting teens around town: at school, on the water, playing sports, at prom or other social events. For more information on this project, call Mara Cota at the Central Library at 949-717-3808 or at mcota@newportbeachca.gov.

3. The Orange County Fair continues Wednesday through Sunday with its annual collection of pig races, freaky fried food, carnival rides, exhibits and more. Click here for schedules, directions and other information. Find ways to get in free to the fair here.

4. If you have a question about medications, bring any prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines or vitamins to the Oasis Senior Center in Corona del Mar today from 9 a.m. to noon. A nurse and pharmacist will be available to answer any questions related to medications. The Oasis Senior Center is located at 801 Narcissus Ave. in CDM.

5. Today will be partly cloudy in Newport Beach with a slight chance of showers in the morning, according to the National Weather Service. The coast will see highs in the low 70s, while inland will be in the mid 80s.
