A popular hotel since 1962, the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach is going contemporary with a $15 million renovation.
Completed in May, renovation transformed the 26-acre property into a modern, resort-style hotel for leisure or business, according to hotel officials.
Originally opened as the Newporter Inn, the hotel hosted Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne and former presidents including Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy. Today's Hyatt Regency boasts new features including 407 guest rooms, 12 suites, three updated pools, a library and a modern lobby complete with a fireplace, TV, throw pillows and blankets.
"We wanted the lobby to feel like a modern beach house, like you're walking into someone's living room in a Newport Beach home," Humphries explained.
The revamp is the hotel's "first full renovation," and no stone was left unturned, Humphries said. The carpet, paint, wallpaper, décor, restaurant, interior and exterior each underwent a facelift. The hotel also has new beds, local artwork and updated fixtures.
“No other property on the coast offers our unique combination of historic charm and modern-day luxury amenities, combined with unparalleled outdoor recreation and relaxation opportunities,” Daniel Kuperschmid, the hotel's general manager, said.
The four-building hotel also offers amenities and activities such as golf, volleyball, an outdoor fireplace, a-full service spa, and the new SHOR American Seafood Grill.
Additionally, the Oasis Pool, which opened over Memorial Weekend, is the hotel's family pool complete with a water slide and a splash pad with squirt guns.
