Newport Beach Tuesday Essentials: Council Meeting, Blood Donations and More

1. Does your child have a green thumb? On Saturday, July 27 at 2 p.m., Rogers Gardens is hosting a Children's Garden Workshop. Children and parents will receive an educational, interactive presentation followed by hands-on projects and activities focused on back yard gardens and exploring nature at home. The class is designed for children ages 5-9 years-old. The workshop fee is $15.00 per child. Call 949-640-5800 to RSVP.

2. The Newport Beach City Council meets tonight at 7 p.m. Read the full agenda here.

3. Don't forget! Hoag Blood Donor Services accepts blood donations Monday through Friday. During the month of July, anyone who donates blood or platelets will receive a free movie ticket or coupon for a Baskin Robbins ice cream. To schedule an appointment, call 949-764-5621 or email donateblood@hoag.org. Hoag Blood Donor Services is located at 510 Superior Ave., Suite 130 in Newport Beach.

4. If you want to keep your child's reading levels up to par during summer break, USA.gov suggests keeping kids learning and engaged by checking out some of the Library of Congress’ recommended booklists, including their recent list, “Books That Shaped America.”

5. Today will start off mostly cloudy, but the sun will shine as the day goes on. Folks near the coast will see highs in the low 70s, while inland areas will see highs in the mid to upper 80s.
