The flags at all Newport Beach fire stations are being flown at half-staff this week to pay respects to four firefighters who died battling a fire in a motel and restaurant in Houston, Texas, a fire captain reported Tuesday.
The American flags at the Newport Beach fire stations will be flown at half-staff through sunset on Wednesday, June 5, according to Newport Beach Fire Capt. Michael Liberto.
The tragic fire started just after noon on Friday, May 31. Captain Matthew Renaud, Engineer-Operator Robert Bebee, Firefighter Robert Garner and Firefighter Anne Sullivan perished in the fire while looking for people they thought might be trapped in the Houston motel and restaurant, according to the Associated Press.
"Please join the NBFD in keeping their families, friends and our brothers and sisters of the Houston Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers," Liberto said in a released statement.
