OC Chiropractor Sentenced to Jail for Assaulting Patient

A 65-year-old chiropractor pleaded guilty Friday to sexually assaulting a patient in his Irvine office and was immediately sentenced to a year in jail.

Dennis Scott Durbin, of Costa Mesa, who pleaded guilty to sexual battery by fraud, was also put on three years of formal probation and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Durbin also agreed to surrender his chiropractor license.

His 28-year-old victim first received chiropractic treatment for an injured knee in 2011, prosecutors said.

When she returned to his office on July 19, 2012 for further treatment of the knee, Durbin offered a massage as part of the therapy, prosecutors said.

During an Aug. 4 appointment with Durbin for massage therapy, he touched her inappropriately, prosecutors said.
