Orange County Olympic Surfer Makes Waves In Gold Medal Round

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA —Huntington Beach native Kanoa Igarshi took to the waves Wednesday to surf for Japan in the gold medal rounds.
The surfers went to work at Tsurigasaki Surfing Beach, just a bit outside of Tokyo, according to Matt Szabo's Daily Pilot report.
He placed second, winning silver in the games, falling to Italo Ferreira of Brazil during the gold medal round.

Igarshi beat San Clemente resident Kohole Andino in the quarterfinals.
He told reporters that he "felt every single little moment" of the ride.

"I felt my heartbeat, I felt my hair in the wind, I felt being in the air. And I had thoughts while I was in the air," he said. "It was kind of surreal, but as soon as I landed I knew it was one of the biggest moments of my career."
