Photos: Junior Lifeguard Championships Take Over Newport Beach

Approximately 1,100 junior ocean lifeguards arrived in Newport Beach Friday to compete in the 2013 California Surf Life Saving Association's Regional Lifeguard Championships.
The junior lifeguards were cheered on by family and friends throughout the day as they competed in nine different ocean and beach events.
On Saturday more than 200 professional lifeguards will take their turn to compete in the Regional Lifeguard Championships. The event starts at 9 a.m. and will continue throughout the day on two water courses until about 5 p.m. at the south side of the Newport Beach Pier between 18th and 20th Streets.
