Principal Selected for Newport Harbor

Sean Boulton comes to Newport Harbor High School from Laguna Hills High School.

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District has selected Sean Boulton as the new principal of Newport Harbor High School, according to a statement released Wednesday.

Boulton, who has served as the principal of Laguna Hills High School in Saddleback Valley since 2008, will fill the post vacated by former NHHS principal Michael Vossen who now works as a district administrator. District spokeswoman Laura Boss said at Laguna Hills High School Boulton raised API scores from 779 to 854, grew the International Baccalaureate Program and started Laguna Hills High School Culinary Arts and Chinese Mandarin programs.

Boulton said he is looking forward to taking the top job at NHHS.

“Newport Harbor High School is one of those rare places where history, community, and educational excellence come together," Boulton said in a released statement. "My wife and I have two children that will one day be Sailors, and to be connected in such a unique way is remarkable."

Boulton was selected following a recruitment process which included a community forum, online surveys from parents and staff and the district interview process.

Boulton's experience in the N-MUSD includes teaching at Ensign Intermediate School and being the assistant principal at Estancia High School.

The school board is expected to vote on Boulton’s position at its meeting on  Aug. 27.
