NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A motorcyclist shot and killed by Newport Beach police last week during a traffic stop is the brother of a former "Real Housewives of Orange County" cast member and the son of a media tycoon, People magazine reported.

"My family and I are devastated by the loss of my brother. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family and the community. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn," Lydia McLaughlin said in a statement to People magazine.

Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, 45, was originally pulled over by police the night of April 17 for an undisclosed traffic violation, the Newport Beach Police Department reported.
