A few Newport Beach residents got a rude awakening over the weekend when they found a prowler in their homes.

A man allegedly went into several homes in the 100 block of 28th Street early Sunday morning, Newport Beach police reported. In one case, residents woke up at about 4:30 a.m. to find the man standing in their bedroom, according to a witness.

Police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said limited details were available because the residents did not file police reports.

"There was no forced entry at any of the addresses, and none of the victims desired further investigation," Manzella said. "Officers spoke to everyone, and no one wanted to file a report."

According to police, witnesses said they saw the prowler running away in the alley.

"The subject was no longer in the area by the time officers arrived, which was less than two minutes from the time of the original call," Manzella said. "Officers continued to conduct patrol checks in the area for the rest of the morning."

Manzella said residents should always lock and secure their homes before going to bed; if the home has an alarm system make sure it is activated and if a resident hears or sees anything suspicious they should not hesitate to contact the police department by dialing 9-1-1.
