Rodents Close Newport Seafood Buffet

Rat droppings in the cabinets below the sushi preparation area resulted in the temporary closure of Hokkaido Seafood Buffet in Newport Beach.

Hokkaido Seafood Buffet in Newport Beach recently closed temporarily after county health inspectors found evidence of rodents in the building.

During a routine inspection on Feb. 5, Hokkaido Seafood Buffet was cited for six major violations and 11 minor violations. According to the health report, inspectors observed rat droppings "in the cabinet below the sushi preparation area of the buffet line," and "on the floor in the dry plate/utensil area," among other places in the restaurant.

Hokkaido Seafood Buffet was allowed to reopen after passing a follow-up inspection.
