Woman Steals iPad from Newport Home After Using Bathroom

Police say the petty theft occurred on Canal Circle in Newport Beach.

A woman who asked a resident to use her bathroom stole an iPad before leaving the house, Newport Beach police reported.

The incident was reported on Sunday, Oct. 7 between 2 and 3 p.m. on Canal Circle. According to police, the victim saw a woman in her front yard as she looked out the window. The victim said hello to the woman who then asked to use the bathroom.

Police say the victim allowed the woman into her home and after using the bathroom, the woman asked for a tour. After touring the home the woman said she left her phone upstairs and went to look for it. After a few minutes she said she couldn't find it.

As she was leaving the house, the woman cradled her stomach and told the victim that she was a few weeks pregnant. The victim later realized an iPad was missing from the home.

Police say the woman had brown hair and was last seen wearing skinny jeans and a sleeveless top.

Don't Open the Doors to Strangers:

- Install and use a peephole with a minimum 190 degree view.

- When you go to the door, have your phone with you.

- Acknowledge you are home without opening the door.

- If the individual acts suspiciously, call the police department immediately and provide them with a description of the subject and why you thought their behavior was suspicious.
