Starting this week, Metro is installing new entrances at the Red and Purple lines requiring the use of TAP cards to ride the rails, the LAist reports.
TAP cards were previously available for frequent users, but until recently, an unknown number of riders hopped on board without a ticket.
The new system is expected to generate $7 million in revenue for the city.
