First Day Of Summer Brings Triple Digit Temps To LA

A short-lived heat wave is coinciding with the first day of summer, driving temperatures into the 90s and above 100 in parts of the county.

LOS ANGELES, CA – A hot spell again will send valley temperatures in L.A. County into the 90s and 100s Thursday – the first day of summer.

With temperatures running 8-12 degrees above normal, the hot spell – not quite a heat wave, forecasters said – results from a strong upper-level ridge. It began Wednesday.

The National Weather Service forecast partly cloudy skies in L.A. County Thursday and highs of 69 degrees in Avalon; 71 at LAX; 73 in Long Beach; 78 in Downtown L.A.; 83 in San Gabriel; 84 in Burbank; 86 in Pasadena; 87 on Mount Wilson; 92 in Woodland Hills; 96 in Saugus; and 103 in Palmdale and Lancaster. A slight cooling trend will start Sunday.

In Orange County, partly cloudy skies were forecast along the coast while sunny skies were expected inland, along with highs of 67 in San Clemente; 70 in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach; 78 in Anaheim and Irvine; 80 in Fullerton and Mission Viejo; and 83 in Yorba Linda.
