UPDATED: High Winds Knocking Out Power in San Fernando Valley

More than 16,000 people are without power Friday morning and LADWP is working to restore power.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Thousands of Department of Water and Power customers are without power Friday morning because of high winds and downed trees.

The outtage affected around 16,300 customers, according to the LADWP. The wind caused 164 outages in the city, most of it in the San Fernando Valley area.

"The wind storms typically result in power outages as dried palm fronds, tree branches, downed trees and other debris fall and make contact with power lines," Albert Rodriguez of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said.
