Jazz Girls Doc Expanding to Two More Theaters

The jazz documentary The Girls in the Band opened at the Laemmle NoHo 7 last week and has been so warmly received, it's expanding to two additional theaters this weekend.

Directed by Studio City-based filmmaker Judy Chaikin, the film spotlights a series of female jazz artists and all-women bands from the 1920s-50s.

The Girls in the Band will have 11 a.m. screenings at the Monica 4 in Santa Monica and the Playhouse 7 on Friday and Saturday. All the showings are $8.

Chaikin said she couldn't be happier that her movie is being expanded from the 626 to the Westside.

"It's great becuase you know how L.A. people are who live on one side of the city, the won't go to the other side of the city," she said.

The Monica 4 is located at 1332 2nd St. in Santa Monica and the Playhouse 7 is located at 673 East Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena.
