Neighborhood Council Wants Pocket Park at Addison and Cahuenga

A governing body in Toluca Lake wants to see a small lot converted into a community resource.

City officials were recently presented with the idea of establishing a pocket park at a vacant city-owned lot at the corner Cahuenga Boulevard and Addison Street.

Members of the Greater Toluca Lake Neighborhood Council's Land Use Committee are in agreement that a miniaturized park isn't solely the preferred option, it may be the only feasible one on the table.

"You have setbacks from the sidewalk, side properties, the only thing you can actually build there would be a very narrow single-use town house," said Ryan Altoon, the neighborhood council's president.

As for amenities like benches, trees or a playground, Altoon said it's too early to talk design elements.

"It's going to come down to studying functional and related uses there, what can really happen," he said.

Altoon said talks with the city will continue for now and that community input hearings would be scheduled if plans move forward.
