NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.
This submission comes from Tanya Yarbrough who nominated Karen Hamza of North Hollywood. Karen founded a non-profit to help people affected by homelessness care for their pets, supplying veterinarian care and other services.

Reason for recognition: She founded a non-profit to help the pets of homeless guardians with supplies, veterinary care, abuse prevention education and other services and she runs the organization almost entirely by herself.
One thing to know: Her organization was designed from the heart after having been homeless on the streets with her dog for a couple of years; she cares deeply about animal welfare.
