Overturned Big Rig Dumps Tons Of Scrap Metal Across 5 Freeway
A big rig overturned on the I-5, strewing 72,000 pounds of scrap metal across the freeway Tuesday, shutting down several lanes for hours.
BURBANK, CA —A big rig hauling 72,000 pounds of scrap metal overturned Tuesday on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Burbank, sending debris across several lanes and snarling traffic while crews worked to clear the scene.
The crash occurred about 4:15 a.m. at Burbank Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
As of about 8 a.m., two southbound lanes remained blocked, and vehicles were backed up for several miles, Caltrans reported.
