Runway Reopens At Burbank Airport After Plane Wing Collision

An plane being towed across the runway struck wings with another empty plane, causing the runway to be temporarily shut down.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — The main departure runway at Hollywood Burbank Airport was temporarily closed Friday, after an empty plane that was being towed collided wings with another empty plane.

"The wingtip of an American Airlines Boeing 737 struck the wingtip of an Alaska Airlines Airbus A320 in the gate area at Hollywood Burbank Airport around 6:23 a.m.," according to a Federal Aviation Administration statement.

"The American aircraft was being towed when the incident occurred. Neither aircraft was occupied. Both aircraft will be inspected before further flight."

The FAA said they will investigate the incident. Officials closed the primary departure runway after the collision, but the runway was reopened late Friday morning.

No injuries were reported.
