Sun Valley Man Suspected of Crashing RV into Parked Cars

A man suspected of being intoxicated plowed a 25- foot recreational vehicle into about a dozen parked vehicles, two power poles and an apartment building in Sherman Oaks, but no one was injured, police said Wednesday.

Lawrence Wright, 60, of Sun Valley, was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and an unspecified misdemeanor warrant, Los Angeles police said.

Wright was unhurt. Three pit bulls and a Chihuahua in the RV also escaped injury, though part of the camper's top was torn off.

Wright was driving a 1973 Tioga RV west on Clark Street, near Sepulveda Boulevard, about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday when he lost control and crashed into a building in the 5300 block of Sepulveda Boulevard.

The RV struck a chain link fence, a masonry wall and several electrical boxes, knocking out power to area traffic signals and several apartments, said Sgt. Cameron Dunnet of the Valley Traffic Division. Power was restored at 6:48 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Several residents were evacuated from the apartment building and inspectors were summoned to check the structure's integrity, Dunnet said. Part of the building was yellow-tagged, ABC7 reported.
