Woman Arrested After High Speed Chase in San Fernando Valley

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY -- A woman who led authorities on a high-speed chase through the San Fernando Valley and into Los Angeles was in custody this morning after being arrested in the parking garage of an apartment building inthe Griffith Park area.

California Highway Patrol officers began their pursuit of the driver about 11 p.m. Tuesday on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway south of Paxton Street in Pacoima, according to CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.

The woman, whose name was not released by authorities, was wanted for reckless driving, NBC4 reported.

The suspect exceeded speeds of 100 mph on the freeway before exiting in Sun Valley and leading officers on a chase through the streets of the San Fernando Valley, at one point losing officers and stopping in the area of Runnymede Street and Fair Avenue, before fleeing again on city streets in Sun Valley, Burbank and North Hollywood.

The woman re-entered the Golden State Freeway in Burbank and officers began chasing her as she accelerated to speeds of over 100 mph before she exited Glendale Boulevard, turned left and followed another vehicle into the parking garage of an apartment complex near Hyperion Avenue and Riverside Drive.

Officers searched the garage and located the vehicle with the woman still inside. A news photographer at the scene reported officers smashed the vehicle's windows before the woman was taken into custody.
