Woman Killed in North Hollywood Hit-and-Run

A 48-year-old woman pushing a shopping cart was struck and killed by a hit-and-run motorist today in North Hollywood.

The woman was crossing the 7200 block of Lankershim Boulevard, outside a crosswalk, when she was struck at 2:15 a.m., Los Angeles police Sgt. M. Whittemore said.

The coroner’s office identified her as Ofelia Salazar.

The suspect’s car, a newer white Mercedes Benz, had been going north in the number two lane when it struck the woman, who had been pushing a shopping car in a northeast direction, according to a Los Angeles Police Department news statement.

The driver continued going north and then turned east on Valerio Street.

Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene, according to police.

LAPD Valley Traffic detectives asked anyone who saw the crash, or who knows of the damaged Mercedes, to call them at (818) 644-8031.
